BATHROOM RENOVATION & DESIGN SERVICE IN RICHMOND

Richmond is one of south west London’s most architecturally distinguished areas, shaped by centuries of royal patronage and its position on the Thames. Georgian townhouses frame Richmond Green and climb the lower slopes of Richmond Hill, many of them Grade II listed and built during the same era that made this stretch of river a fashionable retreat from central London. Victorian and Edwardian terraces fill the residential streets between the town centre and North Sheen, while Petersham and Ham offer everything from riverside cottages to substantial period houses set along lanes that feel more rural than their London postcode suggests.

Renovating a bathroom in Richmond means working with homes that have genuine architectural pedigree. Period properties here come with high ceilings, original plasterwork, sash windows that affect ventilation planning, and solid walls where chasing in new pipework requires careful thought. Riverside and lower-ground-floor bathrooms bring additional considerations around damp-proofing and moisture management that aren’t a factor in properties further up the hill. Even the more modern apartments and townhouses along the river have their own constraints, with premium price tags that demand a design finish to match.

We’ve completed over 1,000 bathroom renovations across Surrey and south west London, with Richmond falling within our core service area. Projects here range from full bathroom schemes in the large houses along Richmond Hill and The Vineyard to en-suite installations in Victorian terraces off Sheen Road and cloakroom conversions in Kew cottages. Every project is personally overseen by Director Neil, and our in-house team of plumbers, electricians, tilers, and carpenters means you’re working with one company from first design meeting to final snagging, backed by our Fixed Price Promise.

About Simply Bathrooms & Interiors

Simply Bathrooms & Interiors is a family-run business led by Neil and Sophie Harrold. Sophie’s background is in Home Interiors Buying and Product Development, leading the design and marketing side of the business. Neil has over twenty years in construction and operational management, overseeing project delivery and the installation teams. Together they bring design innovation and practical execution to every Richmond bathroom we deliver.

TW9 and TW10 housing covers Georgian terraces along Richmond Hill, Victorian villas through East Sheen and the edges of the Old Deer Park, Edwardian semis across Kew, and riverside conversion flats, much of it inside the Richmond Hill, Richmond Riverside and Kew Foot Road conservation areas, where listed-building consent, party-wall arrangements and original timber floors all factor into a bathroom renovation.

Behind the partnership sits a team of specialist tradespeople, including plumbers, electricians, plasterers, carpenters and tilers, alongside dedicated project managers and installers. Bathrooms are one of the most complex areas of the home to renovate, and the coordination across trades is what allows us to deliver bespoke solutions that excel in both function and beauty.

From initial consultation to final installation we apply the same care and precision to every project, with a relentless focus on customer satisfaction. We also cover Kingston upon Thames, Wimbledon and Putney under the same package.

RICHMOND AREA COVERAGE

We cover Richmond town centre, Richmond Hill, The Vineyard, Petersham, Ham, North Sheen, and Kew across the TW9 and TW10 postcodes. We also serve the wider London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, including East Sheen, Barnes, Mortlake, Twickenham, St Margarets, Teddington, and Hampton, as well as our core Surrey service areas of Guildford, Woking, Epsom, Cobham, Esher, and Weybridge.

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames has 85 designated conservation areas, one of the highest concentrations in London. In and around Richmond itself, these include Central Richmond, Old Deer Park, Petersham, Ham Common, Richmond Green, and Richmond Hill. Many properties within these areas are also subject to Article 4 Directions, which remove permitted development rights and require planning permission from the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames for changes that would normally be allowed elsewhere. Our team understands the additional planning considerations that come with working on period and listed properties in this part of London, and we factor them into your project from the outset.

READY TO TRANSFORM YOUR RICHMOND BATHROOM?

Book your initial consultation today and discover how Simply Bathrooms & Interiors can create your perfect bathroom space.

Begin with our telephone consultation where we’ll discuss your vision, budget, and timeline. We’ll assess your property type, whether it’s a Georgian townhouse on Richmond Green, a Victorian terrace near the station, an Edwardian family home in North Sheen, or a riverside apartment, and recommend the best service package for your needs.

The design phase typically takes 4–6 weeks from initial consultation to final sign-off. Once approved, product ordering takes 2–3 weeks. Installation timelines vary:

  • Small bathroom refresh: Approximately 3 weeks
  • Standard renovation: 3–4 weeks
  • Complex renovation with structural changes: 4–6 weeks

Listed properties and homes within Richmond’s conservation areas can take slightly longer, particularly where we encounter original features that need to be preserved or where listed building consent is required for specific elements of the work.

Yes. Our studio is accessible from Richmond via the A307 and A3. We operate by appointment only, which ensures a designer is available to discuss your specific project. Bring room measurements, photos of your current space, and any inspiration images. Free parking is available.

Most internal bathroom renovations don’t require planning permission. However, Richmond has one of the highest concentrations of conservation areas in London, with 85 across the borough, and many properties are also individually listed. If your home is listed or within a conservation area with an Article 4 Direction, certain changes, particularly anything affecting the external appearance like window alterations or new ventilation outlets, will need approval from the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We’ll advise on this during the design phase.

We do, and it’s something we have real experience with across our service area. Listed building consent is a separate process to standard planning permission, and it applies to both internal and external changes that affect the character of the building. That can include removing original bathroom fittings, altering historic plasterwork, or changing the layout of a room in a way that affects its period character. We work within these constraints as a matter of course and can advise on what’s likely to need consent during our initial consultation.
